The meeting started with repacking Rescue-14. It was unpacked earlier in the week for some routine maintenance. The firefighters made quick work of putting everything back in its proper place. It was a good pop quiz to see who knew where things went on the truck!
After that, it was time for some brush truck training! All of the firefighters and juniors went down to the docks to practice with the brush trucks. During this practice, each firefighter, cadet, and junior firefighter had to demonstrate their knowledge of how to start the pump, troubleshoot issues, and operate with the new hoses.
Among the problems encountered were a faulty valve on one of the brush trucks and a bladder which was dry rotted and needed to be replaced. Finding these issues is another reason why we constantly train with our equipment. We don’t want things to fail when we are on calls and we do our best to catch the problems and keep that from happening.
